Amateur Societies
The Muni has an established and beneficial
relationship with the following community organisations, who regularly bring
their fabulous productions to the Muni's stage:
Pontypridd Theatre
Company
The company aims to study and perform theatircal performances such as musical
shows, panotmimes and plays.
The group is based at The Historical Centre, Bridge Street, Pontypridd and meets
Thursday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. They usually perform
annually a pantomime in February, a play in May and a musical in October - all
at The Muni.
Pontypridd Choral Society
Founded almost 70 years ago as a church choir in Calvary Baptist Church,
Treforest, the Pontypridd Choral Society is now arguably the premier mixed
voice (male and female) choir of the town.
The society's 50 members continue the tradition of singing not only the great,
popular religious works, but also opera and music from West End musicals.
They have appeared in events at The Royal Albert Hall in London, St David's
Hall and the Millennium Stadium, both in Cardiff.
Rehearsals are at the Historical and Cultural Centre in Pontypridd on Sunday
evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and new members will receive a warm welcome (no
audition necessary).
Cor Meibion Pontypridd
Formed in 1949, Cor Meibion Pontypridd has continued to provide an opportunity
for eager male choristers to experience the unique atmosphere of strong Welsh
singing established by the country's forefathers in the last two centuries.
The choir performs regularly locally and internationally, including Poland,
Ireland, the USA and Germany. Strong links have been forged with
Liederkranz Oberensingen, a German male choir from Pontypridd's twin town,
Nurtingrn.
The choir also perform regularly at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales and
as part of the HTV male choral competition.
The current musical development is to broaden and
improve the repertoire in order to strive for the best musical standards
possible within a wide-ranging concert program.
