Creating Quality Theatre

Formed in 1979 and based at Coleg Morgannwg in the world famous Rhondda Valley, Spectacle Theatre creates Quality Theatre for Schools, Communities and Theatre Venues throughout Wales and further a field.

Central to the artistic vision in the belief that:

  • Young people have cultural entitlements equal to that of any adult
  • People have the entitlement to access Theatre within their own community
  • People are entitled to Theatre Arts of the highest quality, irrespective of socio-economic, educational or geographical barriers.

The County Youth Theatre

Youth Theatre creates opportunities for young people to:

  • Have a creative experience
  • Work with a variety of theatre professionals
  • Experience public performances
  • Enjoy themselves and build self esteem and confidence
  • Feel that their creative contribution is valued
  • Work bilingually
  • Co-operate with others
  • Feel empowered, and engage with issues and ideas which are important to them
  • Feel ownership of the Youth theatre
  • Learn, strengthen and increase new skills

The aim is to empower young people through increasing their understanding of the relationship between expression and meaning, strengthening therefore their learning of the creative process which takes place whilst creating a piece of theatre.

The Youth Theatre offers plenty of activities to young people in Rhondda Cynon Taff:

  • Theatre workshops - Creative writing, lighting design, sound, stage management, directing, stage combat, dance, circus skills and many more
  • Performances
  • Theatre visits
  • Participation in festivals
  • Technical and digital media
  • Shadowing and mentoring

These are just some of the activities planned for the forthcoming months, but there will be many more. But to be a part of it you have to become a member. This is very easy. Fill in the form below and either e-mail it to carys.parry@spectacletheatre.co.uk or print the form off and send it to:
